The Assistant Controller is responsible for leading the Investment Partnership and Property Accounting activities of the company. You will be a strategic financial resource for property managers and other corporate staff. Your organizational skills, problem-solving, and leadership capabilities will help you handle a wide variety of tasks. To excel in this position, you must have strong customer service skills and have effective time management. This position will work directly with the Controller, CFO/COO, and owners and will be a key member of the leadership team.

Assistant Controller Job Description:
The Assistant Controller is responsible for leading the Investment Partnership and Property Accounting activities of the company. You will be a strategic financial resource for property managers and other corporate staff. Your organizational skills, problem-solving, and leadership capabilities will help you handle a wide variety of tasks. To excel in this position, you must have strong customer service skills and have effective time management. This position will work directly with the Controller, CFO/COO, and owners and will be a key member of the leadership team.
What you will do as an Assistant Controller:
- Responsible for the daily accounting of a commercial real estate portfolio of 15-20 properties comprised of existing office, industrial, retail, and/or medical properties, as well as development and redevelopment projects
- Prepare all aspects of financial statement packages for a set of commercial properties, including accounts receivable and accounts payable, creating and posting journal entries, general ledger review, and completion of backup schedules
- Work with property managers and leadership to develop and prepare management reports to effectively summarize property performance (operationally and financially)
- Partner with property managers to perform the CAM forecasting and reconciliation functions for assigned property portfolios including annual, future, and prior-year budgeting, re-forecasting, and reconciliation
- Ensure all expenses, receipts, distributions, funding requests, and other accounting transactions for the period are completed accurately and timely
- Review and audit financial information to ensure compliance with established procedures and accounting principles
- Respond to and resolve issues and requests from management teams and clients
- Research open accounting issues and recognize potential issues and/or conflicts
- Maintain position-related clerical, filing, and record-keeping systems
What you will bring to the role as an Assistant Controller:
- 4-year Degree with an emphasis in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 1+ year of full cycle accounting experience required
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Experience with the preparation of financial statement packages
- Effectively prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent people skills and customer service-oriented
- Work effectively in a team environment through collaboration and partnership
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with teammates, leaders, and tenants, including technical reading and writing skills
