About the Role
Our firm is partnering with a well-established, community-focused financial institution operating in the commercial banking industry to identify a Senior Credit Analyst. This organization is known for relationship-based lending, strong credit discipline, and a commitment to supporting businesses within its regional markets.
The Senior Credit Analyst plays a critical role in evaluating and monitoring the creditworthiness of commercial borrowers. This position is responsible for delivering thorough, well-supported credit analysis and recommendations within established credit policies. The role supports lenders throughout the life of the loan—from initial underwriting through ongoing portfolio monitoring—and contributes to sound risk management across the lending portfolio.
Job Description
The Senior Credit Analyst is responsible for performing in-depth financial and credit analysis to support commercial lending decisions and ongoing portfolio management. This role works closely with lenders and borrowers to evaluate risk, structure credit recommendations, and ensure compliance with internal credit policy throughout the life of each relationship.
- Perform comprehensive financial analysis on assigned commercial credit relationships
- Ensure borrower financial packages are complete, including tax returns and financial statements; follow up with lenders or customers to obtain missing information
- Prepare detailed financial spreads using Sageworks, Excel, and other relevant tools
- Analyze financial ratios and cash flow to assess the viability and sustainability of primary repayment sources
- Evaluate secondary sources of repayment, including collateral and guarantor support
- Compare borrower performance to industry benchmarks and internal credit policy guidelines
- Identify, assess, and clearly articulate credit risk; propose accurate risk ratings aligned with the level of exposure
- Present findings, recommendations, and risk assessments to lenders and other internal stakeholders
- Partner proactively with lenders and borrowers to clarify financial trends, risks, and mitigating factors
- Participate in joint calls with lenders and customers as requested
- Prepare formal credit action presentations and provide support throughout the approval process
- Complete annual reviews and ongoing credit administration
- Maintain accurate and current credit files, including required documentation and tickler management
- Monitor loan covenants, assess compliance, and escalate issues when action is required
- Assist lenders with file comments, material change documentation, and other credit-related reporting
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field
- Minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible credit analysis experience or equivalent
- Banking industry experience is required
- Strong financial statement analysis, cash flow analysis, and risk assessment skills
- Experience supporting commercial or business lending portfolios
- Ability to clearly communicate complex financial concepts and credit recommendations
- Ongoing professional development or advanced training in credit, financial analysis, or risk management
- Experience working closely with relationship managers or lenders in a commercial banking environment
- Familiarity with industry-standard credit analysis tools and financial spreading software
