About the Role
Our firm is partnering with a well-established, community-focused financial institution that provides commercial banking and lending services across multiple markets. This organization is known for relationship-based banking, prudent credit practices, and a strong commitment to supporting local businesses.
The Credit Analyst plays a key role in evaluating credit risk across the commercial lending portfolio. This position is responsible for analyzing financial information, monitoring credit quality, and preparing thorough credit presentations that support sound lending decisions. Analysis occurs both at loan origination and throughout the life of the credit.
Job Description
The Credit Analyst is responsible for evaluating the creditworthiness of an assigned portfolio and supporting lenders through detailed financial analysis and ongoing credit administration.
 Key responsibilities include:
Perform in-depth financial analysis for assigned commercial credits
- Review financial statements, tax returns, and related documentation to ensure completeness
- Obtain missing or clarifying information from lenders or borrowers as needed
- Prepare and maintain financial spreads using Sageworks, Excel, or similar tools
- Analyze cash flow, ratios, and trends to assess the viability and sustainability of primary repayment sources
- Review collateral, guarantors, and other credit support
- Assess overall repayment adequacy and risk structure
- Compare borrower performance to industry benchmarks and internal credit policy guidelines
- Recommend and assign appropriate risk ratings based on analyzed risk factors
- Discuss findings and recommendations with lending partners
- Proactively partner with lenders and borrowers to clarify issues and gather additional information
- Participate in joint borrower calls as requested
- Develop clear and well-supported credit action presentations
- Provide analytical support throughout the credit approval process
- Maintain up-to-date credit files and documentation
- Monitor and review covenant compliance and recommend action when needed
- Assist with file comments, material change documentation, and tickler management
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field
- 2 or more years of related banking or credit analysis experience
- Ability to analyze financial statements and cash flow
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ongoing professional development or advanced training in credit analysis (particularly for senior-level consideration)
- Experience with commercial lending portfolios
- Familiarity with credit analysis software such as Sageworks
