Job Description
The Associate Credit Representative is responsible for locating and notifying customers of delinquent accounts via mail, telephone, or in-person communication to solicit payment. This position plays a key role in maintaining accurate account records, supporting the credit department, and ensuring timely resolution of past-due balances. The ideal candidate will bring strong communication skills, a customer-focused mindset, and the ability to work independently after training.
Key Responsibilities:
- Receive payments and accurately post amounts to customer accounts.
- Locate and monitor overdue accounts to ensure timely follow-up.
- Confer with customers by phone or in person to determine reasons for overdue payments and review terms of sales, services, or credit contracts.
- Persuade customers to pay outstanding balances on credit accounts, damage claims, or non-payable checks, or to return merchandise as appropriate.
- Arrange debt repayment or establish repayment schedules based on customers' financial situations.
- Contact customers regarding past-due balances via email and phone.
- Listen to, identify, and document invoicing issues, communicating effectively with internal stakeholders.
- Research and reconcile debits, credits, and payments on customer accounts.
- Handle upset or difficult customers in a professional and composed manner.
- Demonstrate internal drive and initiative to resolve past-due balances independently following training.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- 2–5 years of commercial (B2B) collections experience.
- 2–4 years of financial and/or customer service experience.
- Background in accounting to support research on debits/credits within customer accounts.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (basic commands for statement reconciliation) and Microsoft Outlook applications.
- Strong verbal and written communication, customer service, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and stay self-motivated after training.
- Ability to accurately document and record customer/client information.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations related to collections.
- Ability to work professionally and collaboratively with others in a team environment.
- College education or 2–5 years of equivalent collections experience.
- SAP experience.
- GetPaid collections experience.
- Previous experience with Microsoft Word and other collections-related software.
