Our firm is partnering with a large, enterprise-level organization in the retail and digital commerce space to identify a skilled Back-End Development Engineer. This role supports high-traffic, data-driven platforms that power complex, API-based systems used at national scale. The position offers a hybrid work schedule with on-site collaboration two days per week and remote flexibility the remainder of the week.
Job Description
The Back-End Development Engineer will play a hands-on role in designing, building, and optimizing microservices that support enterprise applications. This position owns back-end system architecture, implementation, and ongoing improvements throughout the full software development lifecycle. The engineer will collaborate closely with engineering, data, and product partners to ensure systems are reliable, scalable, secure, and high-performing.

Job Description
The Back-End Development Engineer will play a hands-on role in designing, building, and optimizing microservices that support enterprise applications. This position owns back-end system architecture, implementation, and ongoing improvements throughout the full software development lifecycle. The engineer will collaborate closely with engineering, data, and product partners to ensure systems are reliable, scalable, secure, and high-performing.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Design, develop, and maintain back-end services and RESTful APIs using JVM-based technologies, primarily Java and Spring Boot
- Build and support microservices architectures that integrate with internal and external platforms
- Develop and optimize API and data integrations with Google Cloud Platform services, including BigQuery, as well as large-scale data platforms such as Apache Hadoop
- Partner with data engineering, data science, and product teams to deliver scalable, data-driven solutions
- Apply best practices for security, performance, code quality, documentation, and system design
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve issues across distributed back-end systems and services
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Strong proficiency in Java with hands-on experience using Spring Boot
- Experience working with Kafka and MongoDB in production environments
- Deep understanding of API development, RESTful services, and microservice-based system integrations
- Familiarity with Generative AI tools and their integration into back-end systems
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), particularly BigQuery
- Knowledge of NoSQL databases and data modeling for large-scale data environments
- Solid understanding of distributed systems and modern back-end frameworks
- Experience supporting enterprise-scale or high-volume consumer-facing platforms
- Exposure to cloud-native architectures and data-intensive applications
- Strong collaboration skills across engineering, data, and product teams
