About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Strategic Communications Specialist to support a mission-driven organization focused on advancing life-saving healthcare initiatives. This role partners closely with HR and Strategy leadership to develop and execute communication strategies that elevate awareness, strengthen employee engagement, and drive alignment around enterprise-wide strategic priorities.
The ideal contractor brings strong experience in internal communications, executive messaging, and change communication within complex organizations. This position directly supports organizational modernization efforts, executive communications channels, and enterprise strategy activation.
Job Description
As a Strategic Communications Specialist, you will lead the planning, development, and delivery of internal messaging and communication programs aligned to the organization’s values, employee value proposition, and long-term strategic plan. This contractor role is responsible for creating engaging, informative, and inspirational communications that drive clarity and connection around strategic pillars, organizational performance metrics, and major enterprise initiatives.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Strategic & Internal Communications
  • Develop communication plans supporting organizational strategic pillars and enterprise-wide initiatives, including Enterprise and Product Modernization efforts.
  • Produce clear, compelling content for internal audiences across multiple channels (emails, intranet, presentations, videos, executive updates, etc.).
  • Manage daily communication deliverables while ensuring quality, accuracy, and timely execution.
  • Maintain and administer communication governance processes, including reviews, approvals, and escalations.
Executive Communications
  • Provide communication support for executive messaging channels, standards, and engagement.
  • Contribute to executive communication improvement efforts, measurement, and channel optimization.
  • Serve as a responsive partner for final reviews and backup support for employee communications and issues-based communications.
Strategic Events & Campaigns
  • Lead planning and execution of internal events such as lunch-and-learns, “ask me anything” sessions, and leadership engagement touchpoints.
  • Partner with stakeholders and subject matter experts to deliver high-quality, employee-focused engagements.
  • Support continuous improvement by evaluating event and campaign effectiveness.
Stakeholder & Relationship Management
  • Build strong relationships with the Communications team, strategy partners, HR leaders, and department stakeholders.
  • Develop a strong understanding of organizational business areas, strategic priorities, and workflow needs.
  • Ensure alignment and consistency across all communication activities, campaigns, and channels.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in strategic communications, internal communications, or related fields.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute communication plans within large or complex organizations.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with experience crafting executive-level messaging.
  • Demonstrated success managing multiple projects, deadlines, and stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting organizational change initiatives or transformation programs.
  • Ability to work independently, respond quickly to requests, and manage competing priorities.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience within healthcare, nonprofit, or mission-driven organizations.
  • Background in enterprise modernization, digital transformation, or product transformation communications.
  • Familiarity with communication governance processes, internal channels, and measurement methodologies.
  • Strong event planning and facilitation experience for internal audiences.
  • Ability to distill complex strategic concepts into clear, engaging employee-friendly messaging.
