- Contract Duration: 3 months
- Worksite Location: Naperville, IL
- Compensation: $24.00-$28.00 per hour
What you'll do as the Collector:
- Receive payments from customers and accurately post amounts paid to their respective accounts
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of payments and outstanding balances
- Proactively locate overdue accounts and monitor their payment status
- Ensure customer accounts reflect the most current and accurate information regarding outstanding balances
- Engage with customers through telephone calls, emails, or in-person visits to discuss overdue payments, understand reasons for delays, and explain terms of sales, service agreements, or credit contracts
- Use effective negotiation skills to encourage customers to make payments or return goods
- Work with customers to find agreeable solutions for repayment or resolve disputes in a way that benefits both parties
- Collaborate with customers to arrange debt repayment schedules based on their financial situations
- Ensure all repayment terms are clear and mutually agreed upon, and monitor progress
- Maintain thorough and accurate records of all interactions with customers, including payment history, contact notes, and repayment agreements
- Prepare and submit detailed reports to the credit department for further action if payments are not received within the designated timeframes
- Adhere to all federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations related to collections
- Stay informed about any changes in laws or regulations affecting debt collection practices
- Assist customers in understanding their account status, resolve any issues or disputes, and provide guidance in navigating repayment processes
What you'll bring to the Collector role:
- High School diploma or GED required
- 5-7+ years of experience in financial services, customer service, or collections
- Experience handling overdue accounts and managing collections is strongly preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage with customers and other stakeholders
- Ability to manage customer relationships professionally, demonstrate empathy, and negotiate amicable solutions in a timely manner
- Strong ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively to ensure timely resolution of overdue accounts
- High level of accuracy in documenting customer information, payment histories, and collection efforts
- Proven track record in utilizing exceptional collection techniques to recover debts while maintaining professionalism
- Competency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel) and familiarity with collections software to maintain accurate records and reports
- Knowledge of federal and state laws, as well as company policies and procedures related to collections and financial services
