- Worksite Location:Â Red Wing, MN (Hybrid)
- Contract Period: 3 months
- Compensation: $45-60/hr
What you’ll do as a Cost Accountant:
- Lead standard cost activities including annual cost roll, new product costing, and engineering change request updates
- Prepare accurate product costs based on bill of materials (BOM) and partner with product creation and manufacturing to streamline costing processes
- Perform reconciliations, research transaction differences, and process correcting journal entries to ensure accurate financial records
- Manage daily and month-end close activities, including variance analysis, financial reviews, and balance sheet reconciliations in compliance with US GAAP
- Report results, communicate key business metrics, and provide meaningful variance analysis to stakeholders
- Lead reconciliation and analysis for annual physical inventories
- Support annual audit preparation, including schedules and deliverables
- Partner with manufacturing leaders to track and analyze productivity metrics and support continuous improvement projects
- Participate or lead cross-functional projects to streamline processes, strengthen controls, and improve compliance
- Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and business performance management initiatives
- Drive process improvement efforts, applying LEAN thinking to enable efficiency and growth
What you’ll bring to the Cost Accountant role:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA preferred)
- 5–7 years of experience in accounting or finance, with strong exposure to operations and manufacturing environments
- Proven expertise in cost accounting, general ledger, inventory valuation, and supply chain operations
- Solid knowledge of US GAAP, accounting practices, and internal controls
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to extract, analyze, and process data; ERP and inventory system experience preferred
- Track record of driving process improvements and delivering organizational efficiencies
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills with the initiative to recommend and implement improvements
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work across all levels and functions
- Adaptability to a fast-paced environment with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- A team-oriented mindset with a passion for building partnerships and supporting business growth
