About the Role
Our client, a leading national retailer known for delivering innovative in-store and customer experiences, is seeking an experienced Designer to join its internal design consulting team. This role supports enterprise-wide initiatives, creating impactful visual communications, immersive experiences, presentation materials, exhibits, and product display concepts that help bring strategic ideas to life.
This is a fast-paced, project-based position that requires a highly creative and organized designer who can manage multiple priorities, transform complex concepts into compelling visual solutions, and collaborate with stakeholders across the organization. Candidates must be located near the Minneapolis area and able to work onsite a minimum of three days per week.
Job Description
The Designer will work under the direction of the Design Director, partnering with senior leaders and cross-functional teams to create a wide range of design solutions. Projects may include executive presentations, exhibit and environmental graphics, product mockups, immersive brand experiences, and visual storytelling materials that support new business initiatives and customer-facing experiences.
Responsibilities
  • Develop creative concepts and design solutions from initial research through final execution.
  • Create editorial, exhibit, presentation, and communication-based graphic design materials.
  • Design presentation decks, infographics, branded communications, and visual storytelling assets.
  • Support the development of physical artifacts, displays, signage, and immersive experiences.
  • Build product mockups, prototypes, mood boards, and design guides.
  • Conduct trend research, user research, and concept exploration to inform design direction.
  • Apply brand standards while evolving visual systems and creative expressions.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements, present concepts, and incorporate feedback.
  • Utilize Generative AI and emerging design technologies to enhance design processes and outcomes.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Assist with design installations, exhibit setup, display assembly, and signage placement as needed.
  • Present ideas and concepts clearly through compelling visual communications and storytelling.
  • Ensure timely project completion while maintaining exceptional quality standards.
Work Environment
  • Minimum 30 hours per week.
  • Hybrid schedule with onsite work required at least three days per week (Tuesday–Thursday).
  • Additional onsite days may be required depending on project needs.
  • Portfolio submission or website link is required.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and participate in exhibit installations, including ladder work, display assembly, and movement of product samples.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5–8 years of professional experience in graphic design, editorial design, or communication-focused design.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating a variety of design work, including editorial, presentation, exhibit, branding, and visual communication projects.
  • Experience managing the full design process, including research, concept development, sketching, rendering, prototyping, mockups, technical specifications, and design refinement.
  • Advanced proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, including:
    • Adobe Illustrator
    • Adobe Photoshop
    • Adobe InDesign
  • Experience with art direction, typography, presentation design, and visual storytelling.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience creating product mockups, exhibits, immersive experiences, and environmental graphics.
  • Knowledge of Generative AI solutions and emerging design technologies.
  • Experience working within established brand guidelines while developing innovative creative solutions.
  • Strong project management, stakeholder management, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity, prioritize competing deadlines, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Experience using design and collaboration tools such as Sketch and digital whiteboarding platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with 2D animation.
  • Video editing and motion graphics experience.
  • Product design experience.
  • Experience as an innovative product designer supporting customer-facing experiences.
  • Expertise in graphic and video editing.
  • Experience creating retail, experiential, or exhibit-based design solutions.
  • Familiarity with interactive and emerging design technologies.
  • Experience developing branding elements including logos, packaging, signage, and visual identity systems.
