This position will administer and play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) while providing support and guidance to employees and management on leave of absence policies and processes (Disability, FMLA, Military, etc.). This role will require cross collaboration with other team members within HR, vendors, unions, payroll and employees.

- Contract Duration: 3-month contract prior to hiring full-time
- Work Hours: 8:00am – 5:00pm, Monday-Friday
- Worksite Location: On-site in Avon, MN
- Hourly rate: $28 per hour
This position will administer and play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) while providing support and guidance to employees and management on leave of absence policies and processes (Disability, FMLA, Military, etc.). This role will require cross collaboration with other team members within HR, vendors, unions, payroll and employees.
What you'll do as the HR Absence Management Advisor:
- Serves as the go-to expert for all matters related to FMLA and ADA leaves of absence.
- Maintains a deep understanding of relevant federal and state regulations to ensure compliance and provide accurate guidance to employees and managers.
- Crafts creative solutions to address leave-related challenges while considering the individual needs of employees and the organization.
- Acts as a trusted advisor and advocate for employees throughout their leave journey.
- Offers compassionate and supportive guidance, ensuring employees feel heard, valued, and understood.
- Collaborates with employees to explore alternative work arrangements, reasonable accommodations, and return-to-work plans.
- Manages the leave process from start to finish, including initial intake, documentation, approvals, and coordination with relevant stakeholders.
- Develops and implement streamlined systems and processes to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and accessibility of leave-related information.
- Utilizes technology and digital platforms to provide seamless leave administration experiences and empower employees to self-manage certain aspects of their leave.
- Provides research, analysis and resolutions on existing leave issues and provides analysis and recommendations on closed issues for continuous improvement.
- Manages employee paid time off programs including vacation, paid sick and safe time, floating holidays, bereavement, STD, LTD, Parental Leave, and state leave law requirements. Collaborates with Compliance and IT to ensure the proper systematic set up is in place for all leaves.
- Stays up to date on changes in state sick leave laws and applies them as necessary.Â
- Researches, develops, and maintains/tracks employee paid time off benefits to effectively embrace the company culture and helps drive work/life balance.Â
- Collaborates with the Sr. HRIS Analyst on configuration, setup, report writing and troubleshooting in the processing and retrieval of employee’s benefits data in the JDE E1/Workday systems.Â
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.Â
- 5+ years of HR, leave administration, or related experience.Â
- Experience administering various benefits programs (FMLA, STD, ADA, PTO) and experience with Federal and State employee benefit laws involving employee benefits (COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, ACA, etc.) required.
- Must be an exceptional service-oriented individual, who has solid organization skills, high attention to detail, problem analysis skills, and prepares data and results to effectively support recommendations.
- Ability to relate to all kinds of people and has effective conflict management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and HRIS systems reporting.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
- Must be analytically minded with strong mathematical/quantitative reasoning skills.
- Ability to work with large data sets, review and interpret data, and make appropriate adjustments.
- Must demonstrate a high level of professionalism when dealing with confidential and sensitive issues.
