Job Summary
The Inpatient Coding Specialist is responsible for analyzing and auditing documentation to ensure it meets requirements for assignment of codes from the appropriate classification system. You will work closely with provider and clinical documentation integrity staff to consistently and accurately translate medical record documentation and educate as necessary. You will also assist with performing quality audits, denial management, data collection, monitoring and reporting documentation patterns and trends.

- Rate:Â Â $23.93-$35.90 per hour depending on experience

Job Summary
The Inpatient Coding Specialist is responsible for analyzing and auditing documentation to ensure it meets requirements for assignment of codes from the appropriate classification system. You will work closely with provider and clinical documentation integrity staff to consistently and accurately translate medical record documentation and educate as necessary. You will also assist with performing quality audits, denial management, data collection, monitoring and reporting documentation patterns and trends.
What you will do as the Inpatient Coding Specialist:
- Analyze and audit clinical documentation while applying knowledge of relationship of disease management, medications and ancillary test results
-  Analyze inpatient clinical presentation and diagnostic data to identify cases where additional physician documentation is needed to more accurately reflect the patient’s clinical picture and severity of illness
- Act as liaison and coding expert to physicians, ancillary departments, administration, and other relevant staff members by answering questions or providing support and/or education as issues arise
- Participate in initiatives and activities related to data integrity, Quality of Care/Evidence-based care indicators or billing processes associated with the healthcare system
- Collaborate with the Clinical Documentation Integrity team to ensure clinical validation of documentation
- Actively engages in identifying ideas for system changes and/or edits that will improve coding workflow to allow for efficient and timely submission of claims
- Demonstrate proficient use of specialized software integral to completion of coding
- Meet or exceed departmental quality expectations of 95% and productivity standards
- Abides by the standards of ethical coding and adheres to official coding guidelines
What you’ll bring to the role:
- Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or related field
- 1+ years of experience in Inpatient Hospital CodingÂ
- Current certification with AHIMA or AAPC
- Knowledge of UHDDS (Uniform Hospital Discharge Data Set) billing requirements
- Experience in ICD CM/PCS
- Previous experience working with EPIC
- Computer knowledge and keyboard skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, especially with clinical staff   Â
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills  Â
