Hourly Rate: $75-85/hr W2
Conversion Salary: $150,000- $170,000 annually + bonus

About the Role
We are partnering with a leading nonprofit health insurance organization headquartered in the Twin Cities to hire a Manager of Compensation. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who brings deep expertise in sales compensation and broad experience across compensation programs; executive compensation knowledge is a strong bonus. The Manager of Compensation will oversee a team of three senior compensation consultants and serve as a strategic partner to HR and business leadership in designing and managing competitive and compliant compensation programs that support organizational goals.
Job Description
In this role, you will develop, implement, and manage compensation programs that ensure internal equity, external competitiveness, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. You will partner closely with HR leaders and business stakeholders to design compensation strategies that attract, retain, and motivate top talent. This working leadership role oversees salary structures, incentive plans, market analysis, job evaluations, sales compensation, and compensation policies, while providing expert, data-driven recommendations.

Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Development (30%)
- Provide daily oversight, coaching, and development for three Senior Compensation Consultants.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture focused on continuous improvement and accountability.
- Delegate assignments, set clear goals, and monitor progress to ensure team objectives are achieved.
- Lead the design, implementation, and management of compensation programs, including base pay, incentive plans, and sales compensation structures.
- Ensure programs remain competitive, equitable, and aligned with organizational goals.
- Maintain advanced knowledge of general compensation, Sales Compensation, and Executive Compensation.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for the team.
- Develop and maintain compensation infrastructure, including job architecture, pay structures, and governance frameworks.
- Oversee compensation systems and processes to ensure accuracy, compliance, and scalability.
- Partner with HRIS and payroll teams to optimize systems and reporting.
- Collaborate with HR Business Partners and business leaders to assess needs and provide guidance on compensation matters.
- Advise on complex issues including market analysis, benchmarking, and regulatory compliance.
- Communicate compensation philosophy and program changes to stakeholders.
- Lead or participate in cross-functional projects involving total rewards, process improvement, and organizational effectiveness.
- Monitor trends and best practices to recommend enhancements to compensation programs.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive compensation experience, with focus on sales compensation and/or executive compensation.
- Previous leadership experience overseeing compensation professionals.
- Advanced analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience as a working manager leading high-level compensation consultants.
- Executive compensation experience (bonus qualification).
