A leading not-for-profit health services organization headquartered in Minnetonka, MN is seeking an experienced Compensation Professional to lead and elevate its compensation function. This organization is a recognized leader in the health insurance and managed care industry, serving members across multiple states with a mission centered on improving health and well-being in the communities it serves.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on compensation professional with compensation expertise to join a collaborative, high-performing Total Rewards team. This role is hybrid, requiring onsite presence in Minnetonka, MN three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday).
Job Description
The Manager of Compensation is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the organization's compensation programs to ensure internal equity, external competitiveness, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. This role partners closely with HR leadership and business leaders to design compensation strategies that attract, retain, and motivate top talent while aligning with the company's overall business objectives.
The Manager of Compensation oversees salary structures, incentive plans, market analysis, job evaluations, and compensation-related policies, providing expert guidance and data-driven recommendations to support organizational goals. As a working manager, this individual will also provide daily leadership and development for a team of three Sr. Compensation Consultants.
Key Accountabilities
Team Leadership & Development (30%)
  • Provide daily oversight, coaching, and professional development for a team of three Sr. Compensation Consultants.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture focused on continuous improvement and accountability.
  • Delegate assignments, set clear goals, and monitor progress to ensure team objectives are met.
Compensation Program Management (30%)
  • Lead the design, implementation, and ongoing management of compensation programs, including base pay, incentive plans, and sales compensation structures.
  • Ensure programs are competitive, equitable, and aligned with organizational goals.
  • Maintain advanced working knowledge of compensation principles in general compensation, Executive Compensation, and Sales Compensation.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for the team.
Compensation Infrastructure & Architecture (15%)
  • Develop and maintain compensation infrastructure, including job architecture, pay structures, and governance frameworks.
  • Oversee compensation systems and processes to ensure accuracy, compliance, and scalability.
  • Partner with HRIS and payroll teams to optimize systems and reporting.
Business Partnership & Stakeholder Engagement (20%)
  • Collaborate with HR Business Partners and business leaders to understand needs, advise on compensation matters, and support strategic initiatives.
  • Provide guidance on complex compensation issues, including market analysis, benchmarking, and regulatory compliance.
  • Communicate compensation philosophy and changes to stakeholders.
Project Management & Continuous Improvement (5%)
  • Lead or participate in cross-functional projects related to total rewards, process improvement, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Monitor trends and best practices to recommend enhancements to compensation programs.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in compensation, with a focus on sales compensation and/or executive compensation.
  • Previous leadership experience, ideally managing compensation professionals.
  • Demonstrated experience as a working leader, with strong Sales Compensation expertise.
  • Advanced analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work onsite in Minnetonka, MN three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree.
  • Executive Compensation experience.
  • Experience within the health insurance, managed care, or broader healthcare industry.
  • Experience partnering with HRIS and payroll teams to optimize compensation systems and reporting.
