Our staffing firm is partnering with a leading powersports manufacturer to hire a Powertrain Development Technician for their Product Development Center in Wyoming, MN. Our client is a global leader in the design, engineering, and manufacturing of off-road vehicles, snowmobiles, motorcycles, and other powersports products, with a strong reputation for innovation and performance.
In this hands-on role, you'll join a passionate team of powertrain experts dedicated to developing and testing cutting-edge technologies that power the next generation of off-road vehicles. Job Description
As a Powertrain Development Technician, you will collaborate with engineers to build, disassemble, instrument, and test engines, CVTs, transmissions, and full vehicles. You'll receive test requests from engineers ranging from straightforward tasks—such as removing an engine—to more complex builds requiring the use of service manuals. Your work will directly contribute to the integration of advanced powertrain technologies into our client's product lineup.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform detailed, thorough, and well-documented engine and transmission teardowns and inspections.
  • Set up powertrain hardware for testing and instrument components as specified.
  • Collect, interpret, and analyze test data while ensuring accuracy and integrity.
  • Set up and operate data acquisition systems and related software.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve test procedures and processes.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area in compliance with OSHA standards and 5S methodology.
  • Uphold strict confidentiality of proprietary information.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
  • Fast-paced professional testing environment focused on developing off-road vehicles.
  • Regular exposure to machinery, engines, moving parts, and hazardous chemicals.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Technical degree related to powersports or a minimum of 3 years of experience in powersports/small engines.
  • Small engine experience is a must.
  • Passion for powersports (personal or professional exposure required).
  • Solid understanding of internal combustion engines, CVTs, and gearcases.
  • Proficient in electrical and mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostics.
  • Self-starter with strong attention to detail and a process-oriented mindset.
  • Humility and eagerness to learn—quick to ask questions and take on new challenges.
  • Strong problem-solving and resourcefulness.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a lab environment with exposure to machinery and hazardous chemicals.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience in a large company or Fortune 500 lab environment (e.g., major manufacturing or medical device companies).
  • Dealer tech experience in powersports, automotive, or other small engine dealerships.
  • Previous experience collaborating with engineers on test requests or product development.
  • Familiarity with vehicle electrical systems, wiring, and schematic reading.
  • Skills in fabrication, machining, and welding.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, and digital photography.
