About the Role
Our firm is partnering with a well-established U.S. manufacturer serving the transportation and infrastructure markets to recruit a Product Engineer – Continuous Improvement Focus. This organization is known for producing complex, high-quality engineered products and for its commitment to operational excellence and innovation.
This onsite role is based in Winsted, Minnesota, and sits within a collaborative engineering team that supports large-scale infrastructure solutions. The Product Engineer will play a key role in advancing productivity and standardization through documentation, drafting automation, and engineering process improvements.
Job Description
The Product Engineer – CI Focus is responsible for leading and executing multiple continuous improvement initiatives that enhance productivity, quality, and consistency across engineering documentation and drafting processes. This role works closely with engineering, manufacturing, sales, and external partners to ensure efficient, repeatable, and scalable design practices.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Own and optimize processes and tools related to part, assembly, and drawing creation, as well as engineering change management, driving targeted year-over-year productivity gains
- Enable efficient and repeatable creation of product design documentation for both customers and operations teams
- Develop “mistake-proof” drafting and documentation processes using knowledge-based engineering principles
- Consolidate and standardize designs to reduce variability
- Lead day-to-day optimization of engineering tools and toolchains, including:
- CAD and design automation tools
- Product data management systems
- Engineering change processes and cross-functional handoffs
- Manage improvement projects involving third-party vendors, ensuring projects stay on schedule, within scope, and on budget
- Create and maintain process improvement roadmaps, including project scoping and prioritization
- Collaborate with manufacturing, methods engineering, sales, and other stakeholders to optimize processes both upstream and downstream
- Support communication of design intent, detailed designs, and product release information to internal and external manufacturing partners
- Provide ongoing technical and engineering guidance to manufacturing partners
- Perform design analysis and promote standardization and efficiency throughout the product development lifecycle
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
- Minimum 5 years of experience in design automation, drafting process optimization, or a related engineering discipline
- Strong expertise in CAD tools, particularly SolidWorks
- Demonstrated experience with engineering change management processes
- Solid background in mechanical design, manufacturing, and assembly methods
- Proven ability to lead and manage technical projects using standard project management principles
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Ability to read, interpret, and communicate customer specifications and industry standards
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills
- Hands-on, self-directed approach with a strong sense of accountability
- Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a high-performing, cross-functional team
- Adaptability to changing priorities and a positive mindset in fast-paced or challenging environments
- Advanced expertise in CAD standardization and automation, particularly DriveWorks
- Experience serving as a subject matter expert in mechanical or product design
- Strong background in process development and continuous improvement methodologies
- Experience managing or coordinating work performed by external vendors
