Senior Accountant Job Description
The Senior Accountant is responsible for areas relating to financial reporting and procedures, including the maintaining of accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. This position will be responsible for and/or assisting with accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end review preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities. The position will have consistent contact with internal leadership and external professionals which requires strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.

What you will do as the Senior Accountant:
  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure
  • Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close in accordance with GAAP
  • Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly divisional financial information
  • Manage and complete all account reconciliations with timely investigation and clearing of all reconciling items
  • Ensure the accurate and timely processing of positive pay transactions
  • Assist and supports budget and forecasting activities
  • Collaborate with division managers and leaders to support overall goals and objectives
  • Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy
  • Advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions and communicate with the Controller
  • Respond to inquiries from the Controller, CFO, and SCIPI wide managers regarding financial results, special reporting requests and the like
  • Work with the Controller and CFO to ensure a clean and timely year-end review and other related year-end tasks
  • Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department
What you will bring to the role as the Senior Accountant:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • 3+ years of experience in Accounting, Financial Reporting/General Ledger role
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, including strong Excel skills (pivot tables, v-lookups, etc)
  • Ability to train others in Microsoft Office programs and other accounting based or Company specific programs when applicable.
  • Understanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Proficient in and/or experience working in CDK and NetSuite preferred. 
  • Excellent communication, research, problem-solving and time management skills.
  • High level of accuracy, efficiency, and accountability.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, cooperative, and team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience in driving process improvement.
