Overview
Our firm is partnering with a large, well-established organization in the retail and digital commerce space to identify a Senior Backend Software Engineer. This role supports a high-traffic AdTech platform, building and maintaining scalable backend services that directly impact business outcomes. This is an opportunity to join a small, high-impact engineering team operating in a fast-paced, Agile environment with strong ownership from backlog through production.

About the Role
As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will design, build, and maintain backend services using Java and Spring Boot, working closely with product managers and engineering partners. You will take ownership of stories from the backlog, navigate requirements independently, and deliver high-quality services within a 2-week sprint cadence.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain backend services and RESTful APIs using Java and Spring Boot
Build and support backend services for a digital advertising (AdTech) platform
Take ownership of work items from backlog through implementation, testing, and release
Translate product requirements and user stories into scalable, maintainable solutions
Navigate stories independently and contribute to sprint planning and estimation
Write clean, well-tested code, including unit and automated tests
Ensure services meet quality, performance, and reliability standards
Participate in Agile ceremonies within a 2-week sprint framework
Collaborate closely with product managers and cross-functional engineering partners
Contribute to technical discussions, code reviews, and architectural decisions
Partner with platform, infrastructure, and operations teams as needed

Required Qualifications (Must Have)

5+ years of professional software engineering experience
Strong backend development experience using Java
Hands-on experience with Spring Boot
Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs
Experience with MongoDB databases
Solid understanding of Agile development, including sprints and user stories
Experience with unit testing and automated testing
Ability to work independently and explain technical solutions clearly

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Kotlin
Background in AdTech, digital advertising platforms, or high-scale backend systems
Experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting tools
Exposure to or interest in Generative AI use cases or integrations
Experience supporting production systems at scale
