Senior Development Contract Engineer | Java | Kotlin

- Contract Duration: 6 months
- Worksite Location: Brooklyn Park, MN
- Compensation: $60Â - $90Â per hour W2 only (no C2C)Â
What you’ll do as the Senior Development Contract Engineer:
- Lead the design, development, testing, and lifecycle management of backend services within a large-scale, enterprise environment
- Translate abstract architectures into concrete designs, providing technical leadership and influencing implementation across the engineering team
- Apply appropriate software engineering patterns to build robust, scalable, and maintainable systems
- Contribute directly to coding efforts with strong expertise in Kotlin, ensuring clean, testable, and reliable code
- Implement and maintain microservices leveraging frameworks such as Micronaut or Spring Boot, ensuring compliance with RESTful standards
- Design and optimize Kafka producers, consumers, and stream processing to support event-driven architecture at scale
- Build and maintain observability and monitoring solutions (e.g., OpenTelemetry, Grafana) to enhance operational resilience
- Conduct code reviews, design reviews, and debugging activities, promoting engineering best practices across the team
What you’ll bring to the Senior Development Contract Engineer role:
- 5+ years of professional experience in backend software development within enterprise-scale environments
- Strong proficiency in Kotlin programming
- Hands-on experience with Micronaut or Spring Boot frameworks
- Solid knowledge of Apache Kafka (producers, consumers, stream processing)
- Experience with DevOps tools and technologies, containerization, and orchestration
- Skilled in observability and monitoring tools (OpenTelemetry, Grafana, etc.)
- Proficient in test-driven development (JUnit, K6, etc.)
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate in cross-functional teams
- Commitment to writing clean, maintainable, and reliable code with strong system reliability practices
