We are partnering with a growing transportation and logistics organization in Eagan, MN to hire a Senior Staff Accountant. This role will serve as a key finance partner responsible for supporting the monthly close process, preparing journal entries and reconciliations, analyzing financial results, and delivering accurate reporting to help leadership understand business performance. Job Description
The Senior Staff Accountant will manage core accounting activities while supporting business analysis, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives. This position will work closely with finance and operational partners to ensure accurate financial records, identify trends, research variances, and improve accounting workflows.
Key responsibilities include:
- Serve as a primary accounting contact for assigned functional areas and business partners.
- Prepare journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and account analyses to support the monthly close process.
- Review financial activity for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with company accounting policies.
- Research variances, investigate unusual activity, and recommend corrective actions as needed.
- Translate accounting and financial information into clear insights for business partners and management.
- Assist with annual budgeting and forecasting activities for assigned business units.
- Support decision-making through analysis of financial results and operating performance.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting workflows, documentation, and close efficiency.
- Work across multiple transaction processing systems, ERP/accounting platforms, and financial reporting tools.
- Use Excel, financial systems, and emerging technology tools to improve accuracy, efficiency, and productivity.
- Support organizational goals through a continuous improvement mindset and proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Build strong working relationships with finance, operations, and leadership teams.
- Communicate financial information clearly, professionally, and with practical business judgment.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- 4+ years of relevant accounting or finance experience.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge and understanding of financial reporting fundamentals.
- Experience preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, balance sheet analyses, and financial reporting support.
- Experience researching variances, analyzing financial results, and identifying corrective actions.
- Advanced Excel skills and comfort working with financial systems and large datasets.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP or a similar ERP/accounting system.
- Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, business unit reporting, or operational analysis.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage deadlines and competing priorities.
- Ability to take ownership of assigned responsibilities and follow through on commitments.
- Willingness to learn, adapt, ask thoughtful questions, and continuously improve processes.
- CPA designation.
- Experience in the transportation, logistics, trucking, or related industry.
- Familiarity with Power BI, reporting tools, workflow automation, or other finance technology platforms.
- Interest in using AI and emerging technologies to improve accounting, reporting, and analysis processes.
- Experience in a private equity environment.
- Proven ability to reduce manual work, improve reporting workflows, and strengthen financial controls.
