A Senior Accountant with a Tax emphasis is responsible for organizing and coordinating clients’ tax data for the accurate and timely completion of individual, corporate, partnership and S corporation returns. The Senior Tax Accountant performs most work assigned with minimal assistance from a higher-level tax professional. They will aid less experienced tax preparers. Seniors are expected to handle moderately complex tax matters.

What a Senior Tax Accountant will do:
- Perform diversified accounting, auditing, and tax assignments under the direction of a manager or partner
- Review tax information submitted by the client for completeness; prepares a list of questions and missing information
- Confirm that the data collected is complete, reasonable, and accurate
- Prepare individual and business returns of various complexities
- Make adjusting entries and complete trial balances to prepare a tax return
- Maintain a good understanding of depreciation and depreciation computer software packages to set up clients and read and understand depreciation reports
- Demonstrate competency in technical skills, work quality, and application of professional and firm standards
- Prepare and index work papers; perform various procedures established under generally accepted accounting principles to verify the accuracy and validity of client’s financial matters
- Suggest client tax planning ideas to the manager or partner
- Perform the broadest range of accountant tasks so that the direct participation of managers or partners is kept to a minimum
- Start establishing a presence in the community by participating in civic organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce, rotary, etc.
- 2–3+ years of experience in public accounting, demonstrating a progression in the complexity of auditing and accounting tasks and tax knowledge
- 4-year degree in accounting, or master’s degree in taxation
- Minimum of forty hours of continuing professional education is required each year
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in English, both verbally and in writing
- Either holds a current and valid certified public accountant’s license or is working toward obtaining the license by taking and passing the Minnesota CPA exam OR holds a currently enrolled agent license or is working toward obtaining their EA
- If licensed, should be a member in good standing with the AICPA and MN CPA societies
- Proficiency in the use of computers and computer accounting and tax software programs.
- Ability to occasionally do same-day travel for work at client’s offices, meetings, and seminars using a personal vehicle
- Ability to occasionally do out-of-town travel with overnight stay for work at client’s offices, meetings, and seminars using a personal vehicle
- Ability to occasionally work overtime throughout the year (Heavy overtime work required from January to April 15; may be more than 55 hours per week. Required to work most Saturdays during this time period.)

- Compensation: $85,000-$95,000 + 10% target bonus
- Worksite Location: Inver Grove Heights, MN (hybrid)
This position will play an active role in the month-end close and financial reporting process for designated business units. What you’ll do as the Senior Accountant:
- Ensure completion of monthly accounting activities, including journal entries, reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, and other tasks required for financial close
- Prepare, analyze, and review general ledger account reconciliations as part of the month-end close process
- Perform accounting and financial analyses to identify key trends and support critical estimates, such as accruals and reserves
- Collaborate cross-functionally and serve as a business partner to aid in the preparation and reporting of financial results
- Prepare schedules in support of reporting required for SEC disclosures
- Perform, document, and support the design and operating effectiveness of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls
- Collaborate with internal and external auditors in connection with audits and reviews
- Identify process improvement opportunities and lead efforts to implement solutions related to process efficiencies, standardization, system enhancements, and improved reporting capabilities
- Support ongoing finance transformation by assisting in efforts to segregate work activity between accounting activities and activities that relate primarily to analysis, planning, forecasting, budgeting, or decision support activities
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, statistics, economics, business, business administration, or related field
- 4+ years of experience in finance and/or accounting
- Knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- CPA, CMA, or CFA certification
- Experience with SAP and Agris accounting software
- Proficient in MS Office Suite
- Previous Ag-related experience
- Enterprise transformation experience
