About the Role
Our client, a well established civil engineering and surveying firm, is seeking a Survey Technician to support a growing workload of infrastructure and roadway projects in the Minot, North Dakota area. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with experienced survey professionals on a wide range of civil engineering projects while developing technical and field skills. The position also provides long term growth potential into advanced survey or crew leadership roles.
Job Description
The Survey Technician works under the direction of a Survey Crew Chief or Land Surveyor and supports field and office surveying activities for civil engineering projects. This role is primarily field based, with opportunities to assist design teams when survey workloads fluctuate.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Assisting with land surveying services including topographic, boundary, right of way, control, and construction surveys
  • Collecting field data using conventional surveying equipment and GPS technology
  • Preparing accurate field notes, sketches, and documentation of field conditions
  • Supporting construction observation activities as needed
  • Participating in pre survey planning meetings and providing project progress updates
  • Communicating effectively with contractors, engineers, and project stakeholders in the field
  • Following established surveying methods, safety procedures, and regulatory standards
  • Working independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Traveling to project sites, including overnight travel and seasonal overtime as required
  • Performing other duties as assigned
This position offers a clear path for advancement into roles such as Survey Crew Chief or Land Surveyor based on performance and experience.
Qualifications
Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather and construction site conditions
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 to 75 pounds
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one
  • Willingness to travel and work extended hours during peak construction seasons
Preferred
  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Land Surveying, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Two or more years of experience with topographic and roadway construction staking
  • Experience operating GPS, total station, and robotic survey equipment
  • Familiarity with construction survey methods and data collection practices
  • Experience with CADD software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or MicroStation
  • Ability to perform basic surveying calculations using calculators and coordinate geometry software
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
