Technical Project Manager Job Description:
The role of the Technical Project Manager is to plan, execute, and finalize software development and other IT projects according to strict deadlines and within budget. This includes coordinating the efforts of cross-functional team members and third-party contractors or consultants to deliver projects according to plan. The Technical Project Manager will also define the project’s objectives and oversee quality control throughout its life cycle.
What you’ll do as a Technical Project Manager:
- Define project scope, goals, and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders
- Set and continually manage project expectations with team members and other stakeholders
- Plan and schedule project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools and Agile/Scrum methodology
- Determine the frequency and content of status reports from the project team, analyze results, and troubleshoot problem areas
- Define project success criteria and disseminate them to involved parties throughout the project life cycle
- Assess the need for additional staff and/or consultants and make the appropriate recruitments if necessary, during the project cycle
- Develop full-scale project plans and associated communications documents
- Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path
- Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations
- Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans
What you’ll bring to the Technical Project Manager role:
- Bachelor's degree in technology, management, business, or a related field
- 5+ years of direct work experience in a project management capacity, including all aspects of process development and execution
- 2-4+ years of Agile/Scrum Project methodology experience
- Strong familiarity with project management software, (Jira/Confluence experience a plus)
- Demonstrated experience in personnel management (Coaching and leading teams)
- Technically competent with various software programs
- Can conform to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including upper management, clients, and other departments
- Adept at conducting research into project-related issues and products
